About
IndiaAnalyzed is an independent, non-commercial project that puts public data about India on an interactive map. Pick a dataset and watch the country recolor — then click down from the country to a state, a district, its tehsils and villages. The map is the product; datasets are layers poured into it.
Where the data comes from
- Boundaries:official Local Government Directory (LGD) geography — India’s current states and districts — via ramSeraph’s CC0, Survey-of-India-compliant releases.
- Population & demographics: Census of India 2011 (Government of India), joined by official codes — never by name-matching.
- Historical series (1991–2011): the SHRUG dataset by Development Data Lab, used under its non-commercial license.
How it’s built
Every number is frozen into static files at build time and served from a CDN — there is no server, no database, and nothing collected when you browse. Counts are stored at the finest available level and summed upward; rates and ratios are always recomputed per level, never averaged. Districts created after the 2011 census are shown honestly as “no data” rather than hidden or guessed.
